As courts and local governments begin to unlock the doors of all-male clubs to women, the Y.Westward.C.A. is resisting rising pressure to open up jobs and membership to men.
The 130-yr-old Immature Women's Christian Association, one of the first national organizations to champion equal rights and opportunities for women, has threatened to disaffiliate a affiliate in Washington State that has hired a human being as its executive managing director.
The association'south bylaws reserve that mail for ''voting members'' and, since all of such members are women, the dispute has brought calls for a change in the constitution.

The president of the Tucson chapter disagrees. ''What's so aggravating virtually this example is that Mr. Dorgan was not qualified,'' said Peg Nash, the president. ''He has no background in administering women'southward programs.''
On the other hand, Mr. Tiger who for 6 years headed a Colorado organization that provided assistance to the disabled, was hired for the $28,000 post in Tacoma considering he ''happened to take the best capabilities,'' Ms. Modahl said.
Saying the affiliate would only ''basically lose its stationery and logo,'' Ms. Modahl added, ''We will continue our services regardless, and if nosotros accept to get a new name, we will.'' She said most of the chapter's 400 members support Mr. Tiger, who presides over a $600,000 budget and 25 employees, 2 of whom are men.
The chapter'southward financial contributors, including the United Way and the Urban center of Tacoma, which note they are equal opportunity employers themselves, are too supportive.
''If they are disaffiliated, but continue their services,'' said Cherryl Davidson, contract managing director for Tacoma's Man Resources Department, ''then we would proceed supporting them.''
